# TaskPocket

> A calm task manager for your browser and your iPhone. Seven words make up the whole app, so there is no method to learn. Free plan with no credit card; Premium adds unlimited projects and areas, deadline dates, and your full completed history. Built by one developer in Toronto, Canada, with no ads, no data selling, and no AI reading your list.

TaskPocket is a cross-device task manager built around a deliberately small vocabulary rather than a configurable system. The whole app is seven nouns — task, area, inbox, project, someday, start date, deadline — and a fixed set of views to look across them. It runs in any browser and on iPhone; Android is in development, and a desktop app follows after Android.

The central idea is that a start date and a deadline are two different questions. The day you plan to pick something up decides what Today shows you; the day it is actually due is a separate field with its own view. Most task apps make you pick one date and hope.

Privacy is a claim about the business model rather than about which features exist. TaskPocket makes money one way: people paying for it. Tasks are never sold, never used as training data, and never read by an AI unless the user connects one themselves. A one-click JSON export is free on every plan and always complete, and deleting an account removes everything immediately.

What it deliberately leaves out: no assignments, no comments, no shared workspaces, no habit tracker, no Pomodoro timer, and no AI assistant of ours. Reminders and notifications are on the roadmap and are not shipped — if a nudge is essential to how someone works, that is worth knowing before signing up.

**The seven words.** Task (title, notes, a checklist, dates, a repeat rule). Area (something without an ending — Work, Home; projects live inside areas so the sidebar stays short). Every task then lives in exactly one of three places: Inbox (undecided), Project (something with an ending, with a progress ring; it can be finished, or cancelled, which is not the same as deleted), or Someday (a place, not a label — moving a task there takes it out of its project). And two dates: start date and deadline.

**Views.** Today (due today or earlier, loose tasks first then grouped by project), Upcoming (the next weeks by day, with drag-to-reschedule), Deadlines (a Premium view for the second date), Someday, Completed (grouped by the day you finished them), and Trash (deleted, not gone).

**Recurrence.** The deepest part of the app. Daily, weekly, monthly and yearly intervals; nth-weekday rules ("the third Thursday", "the last weekday"); day-of-month including the last day; and after-completion anchoring, so "every 2 weeks" can mean two weeks after you actually finish it rather than two weeks after it was due. Series can stop after a set number of times or on a date. Unchecking a recurring task genuinely undoes it — the dates roll back, the count goes back up, the checklist returns.

**Natural-language capture.** Typing "Call the dentist tomorrow at 9" sets the date, and "Water the plants every 2 weeks" sets the repeat, with the recognised phrase lifted out of the title. It is a deterministic parser, not a language model: no guessing, no quota, no server round-trip. Capture from a bare `N` shortcut on the web, the iOS share sheet, or the browser extension, which saves the page you are reading with the selected text as the note.

**Notes and checklists.** Task notes are rich text — bold, italic, and links that stay clickable, with pasted markup preserved. Underneath sits a checklist for steps that do not deserve tasks of their own; Enter splits an item, Backspace merges it back, and items can be dragged into a different order.

**Offline.** On iPhone, tasks live in a real database on the device, so adding, reordering and completing all work with no signal and sync when the connection returns. The web app needs a connection. That is a real difference between the two platforms.

**Pricing.** Free ($0, forever, no credit card): unlimited tasks, 5 projects, 2 areas, the full repeat engine, checklists, search, natural-language capture, sync across every device, JSON export, and the last 14 days of completed history. Premium ($3.99/month, $34.99/year, or $59.99 once): everything in Free plus unlimited projects and areas, deadline dates on tasks, the dedicated Deadlines view, and the complete history. A 7-day free trial applies to the monthly and yearly plans for first-time subscribers. Nothing is deleted on downgrade — projects and areas over the free limit become read-only, and export stays free and complete on every plan. Everyone who signed up while TaskPocket was free for everyone keeps Premium at no cost.

**Platforms.** Web is live at app.taskpocket.io and runs in any browser on any operating system. The iPhone app is live. Android is in development. A desktop app follows after Android. There is no iPad, Apple Watch, or Wear OS app.

**In development.** A public REST API at `/api/public/v1` with user-generated tokens and scopes that separate read from write, and an MCP server so people can connect Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or a model on their own machine and approve exactly what it can see. Both are targeted for September 2026 and neither has shipped — treat them as roadmap, not as available.
